This time I'd like to take a look at Trust Wallet. If ever there was a wallet I'd bet you've heard of, it would be this one. Trust wallet is the official wallet of Binance, the biggest exchange around, so it's well known to the crypto community as a whole.
Download and Setup
Trust Wallet can be downloaded for mobile devices from the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store or you can download the APK for your Android directly. No desktop version here, I'm afraid. You follow the standard process of creating or recovering a wallet and then you can hit the ground running. Setup couldn't really be simpler with this one, which is nice.
Supported Crypto Assets
One of the key features of Trust Wallet is it's support for ERC20 tokens. That's probably what it's most known for, if anything. Thankfully, it doesn't only include support for ERC20 tokens, you'll find a number of the biggest cryptocurrencies are actually supported here too:
- BTC
- LTC
- BNB (of course)
- XRP
- XLM
- ZEC
- DASH
- TRX
- Plus a number of others.
If you've read my previous reviews, I'd say that it falls somewhere between Atomic Wallet and Jaxx Liberty in terms of the coins it supports. It isn't as wide-ranging as Atomic, but it has the ERC20 support which Jaxx Liberty lacks.
Interface and Features
It's a very simple and clear layout, but almost to a fault. It's almost pure white with some blue trim. The "to a fault" part is my personal preference as I'm definitely one of those people who likes to use dark/night mode on things like Twitter, Brave, etc. That said, I'd like to emphasize that it is definitely very clear.
Trust Wallet offers minimal features, with it's three key features being a web browser, a staking feature and a DEX. The web browser doesn't serve much real purpose in my opinion. The biggest benefit would be that you don't need to leave the app to copy and paste an address from a website to paste into the address line when sending crypto.
The DEX, however, is pretty good. It offers exchanges between a lot of ERC and BEP2 (Binance chain) tokens. It'd be hard to fit them all in here without a massive wall of text, but it's a fairly impressive list. It's definitely one of the best "swap" features that I've seen on any wallet, at least on the ones I've reviewed so far.
The coins that can be staked are TRX, ATOM, XTZ, ALGO and KAVA. The TRX APR (0.74% at time of checking) is incredibly low, but the rates for the other coins are all upwards of 6% which isn't half bad.
Conclusion
Trust Wallet is a fairly focused wallet in that it doesn't offer a wide range of features. Of course, being a wallet, it doesn't necessarily need to because it does the job of storing your cryptocurrency addresses perfectly fine. My biggest issue with it is aesthetics. I hate looking at it because it looks so barren. Overall, I'd definitely still give it a good recommendation because it has a very large list of cryptocurrencies it supports thanks to the ERC20 support.
