It's no longer news that digital advertising is broken, and in need of a serious turn around.
There are tracking scripts flying everywhere, trying to get your data for free. There are shady advertisements that make it to the top of Google because they have the money. And then there's you, the user, in the middle of all this crap.
Imagine reading an article on technical analysis and seeing an advertisement for baby diapers. Of course, you have no interest in that given what you were reading, but it got shown to you anyway. What happens is:
- That slight second that you took your eye off of your reading would cost you your attention span.
- Your time has been wasted because "baby diapers".
- The advertiser just wasted their money.
- Google makes all the money, saves their time and doesn't have to deal with a dwindling attention span.
Enter Brave, and the Brave Browser. They have taken the necessary steps to ensure that these problems don't surface at all.
All tracking scripts are blocked from web pages. What you get is a naked web page waiting for you to devour it's information.
Also, ads are dissolved. You don't see any ads at all, thereby upping your attention span by some reasonable margin.
You CAN view unobtrusive ads if you want, and these ads are related to your topic of interest, i.e the one you are currently reading.
I found Publish0x through the Brave browser, so that's bonus points!
You also get paid for ads you choose to view. These ads can come in form of beautifully designed pictures that were crafted by some of the best graphic designers you can find, or simply unobtrusive ads that are related to your subject matter.
"But doesn't Brave have to track my usage to know what I'm interested in?"
Great question. And yes, they do track your usage. But that usage never leaves your computer. In fact, you could find and delete that data if you so please, although you might not see any ads for a while because of that.
Brave plans on fixing the advertising industry by introducing it's own token: The Basic Attention Token.
This token will be paid to users who view ads, as well as creators who get tipped by users who simply love their content.
This token has real value and can be cashed out to your bank account through an exchange, and you get it for free by viewing ads.
Brave has switched the power and money from only going to the advertisers, to being equally shared among everyone.
I feel that this is the way forward for the advertising industry in the nearest future.
